The handprints of Cate Blanchett, Ernie Dingo and Kevin Rudd have been plastered over the Sydney Opera House for a campaign to improve the lives of indigenous Australians.
A cast of political and celebrity heavyweights, including Russell Crowe, turned out in Sydney on Friday to support GenerationOne, created to boost Aboriginal employment, literacy, and year 12 completion rates in indigenous communities.
It also aims to help curb alcohol abuse and welfare dependency.

Senior Labor sources confirmed yesterday some inexperienced backbenchers were beginning to question their re-election prospects after polls showing a drop in Labor's support, even though the government was still in a strong position.
The sources expressed strong confidence in Labor's re-election prospects, but said new MPs had become so accustomed to Labor maintaining a huge lead during its first two years in office they were shocked to see a turnaround in the figures.

Godzone is supposedly a Kevin Rudd gab-fest, subtitled "Thoughtshaping our future".
If Rudd's peculiar anonymity gives Gillies little to work with, his more peculiar language is another matter, providing phrases like "road-rubber interface matrices".
With Rudd as convener, Gillies parades his characters live or on screen.

TONY ABBOTT'S "direct action" climate strategy would reduce emissions by only half as much as the Coalition claims because it made over-optimistic assumptions about the amount of carbon that could be stored in soil, a study suggests.
Soil carbon accounted for 60 per cent of the proposed emission reductions in Mr Abbott's climate policy, or about 85 million tonnes of carbon a year by 2020.
But according to the analysis, only 27 million tonnes a year is possible and only 18 million tonnes at the low pri

For some, the alternative prime minister's history is so well-known that last night's Four Corners profile was a slow re-run: from student warrior to trainee priest, from defender of the monarch's realm to moral crusader.
Many have set minds and hearts when it comes to the love-or-loathe-him Opposition Leader.
Still, with perhaps 20 per cent of voters open to persuasion and brand education, the putative candidate is putting himself out there for show.

MALCOLM Turnbull has accused Opposition Leader Tony Abbott of being "entirely political" in his stance on the emissions trading scheme.
The ex-Liberal leader told the ABC that politics had driven Mr Abbott's call on the Liberal Party to ditch support for the scheme, which it did when it ousted Mr Turnbull for Mr Abbott.
He condemned Mr Abbott's comment to a meeting before he was leader, quoted in a Victorian local paper, that "the argument [on climate change] is absolute crap".

Former opposition leader Malcolm Turnbull says Tony Abbott's decision last year to ditch Coalition support for an emissions trading scheme (ETS) was motivated by politics, not policy.
Mr Abbott took the Liberal leadership from Mr Turnbull last December after arguing that the Opposition should drop Mr Turnbull's position to support the Government's emissions trading laws with negotiated amendments.
Mr Turnbull has taken a swipe at his leader's decision to do so in tonight's Four Corners program, which

The federal opposition will have Kevin Rudd in its sights when parliament resumes on Monday as it tries to establish when and what the prime minister was told about the government's bungled home insulation scheme.
Opposition Leader Tony Abbott and his environment spokesman Greg Hunt used parliament last week to pepper Mr Rudd with questions about safety warnings the government received from experts and whether the prime minister's own department sought to water down that advice.
Whether the persistent

Mr Turnbull, a member of UNICEF Australia's Parliamentary Association, presented the students with a UNICEF soccer ball and a certificate of appreciation for raising $900 through their UNICEF Australia Day For Change event.
